Laser Applications Laser Annealing

What is Laser Annealing?

Laser annealing refers to localized heating that changes the color of the material being heated depending on temperature of the heat. Annealing colors can vary between yellow, red and green conditional to the temperature at the surface of the mark.

Nothing is removed from the surface being heated in annealing. The heat of the laser creates an oxidation process that leaves a permanent mark that is great for keeping products such as medical devices eternally traced.

A heat-tempering mark, laser annealing changes the color on the metal surface by heating followed by cooling to deliver a permanent, readable mark. Annealing is most popular for metals and is great for leaving surfaces smooth while adding dark, permanent marks that prevent oxidation.

Through annealing, MECCO’s lasers help to deliver lifetime traceability that add unique identifying numbers to meet 2013 FDA requirements to maximize speed on recalls and boost patient safety.
