EtherMark® Laser and Pin Marking Integration

Simplifying Marking System Integration

Save hours on programming time when integrating your marking systems into factory automation networks with MECCO's patented technology solution. Our proprietary integration method, along with embedded control technology, saves manufacturers time and money by eliminating the need for custom programming of programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

Whether your factory runs on EtherNet/IP™, PROFINET, Modbus, or OPC, EtherMark® simplifies the communication for your laser and pin marking equipment.

EtherMark® Features

  • Allows SMARTmark laser marking systems, LightWriterTM PRO Connect by MECCO laser marking workstations, and pin marking systems to integrate directly using EtherNet/IP™, PROFINET, Modbus, and OPC protocol
  • Hardware and software kit provides fully defined protocol connectivity to MECCO marking equipment
  • Easy integration into factory automation controls minimizes system setup
  • No time-intensive custom interface software required
  • No PC required on the factory floor; Load jobs directly from the PLC
  • Up to 5 object fields for dynamic data, including 2D barcodes and text
  • Inserts custom text fields (i.e., serial number, barcode) into job files
  • Auto-Verify: Integrated vision interface module for grading, with remark on verification failure
  • Auto Re-Mark: Integrated job file re-mark capability
  • Prevents serial number duplication by enforcing text field uniqueness
  • Reports network status and error reporting for system status

Ladder Logic

Add-on instructions simplify programming by allowing a user to drag and drop all of the typical commands to the unit (i.e., load job, load text, mark job).

Object Model

EtherMark provides simple Allen Bradley PLC Registers (Tags) that control or report the behavior of various functionality within the marking unit. Input allows you to supply settings like X and Y offsets as well as specify job file names and strings of information, while output reports mark cycle time and machine status.

EtherMark® Technical Specifications

10/100 Mbps Ethernet standard RJ45 port, to network and PLC

Compliancy

ODVA compliant EIP/CIP object model interface

IP Address

Manually set fixed IP configured by user

Firmware

Flash firmware upgrade via Ethernet or USB

Control

  • Supervisory control of SMARTmark Laser Markers
  • Supervisory control of Couth Pin Markers
  • Acquire and release host control (slave control of LEC card - Laser only)
  • Load job files
  • Load content into 1D/2D barcodes and text variables
  • Apply X/Y global offsets
  • Apply rotational offsets (Laser Markers only)

Barcoding

SMARTmark Laser capable of 3,000 characters in a 3D barcode with string concatenation
Dot Peen capable of 68 characters in a 2D barcode

Traditional Integration

Current marking systems employ vendor-specific proprietary APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). These interfaces require the PLC programmers to learn a proprietary command set and create custom code to perform basic marking operations.

MECCO's EtherMark® Integration Solution

MECCO’s patent-pending technology allows factory floor PLCs to use EtherNet/IP™ to control part marking systems, which simplifies the communication process to only one command by PLC for marking a job file.
