Laser Applications Laser Bonding

What is Laser Bonding?

Laser bonding leaves permanent traceability on part surfaces by using a laser to fuse an additive material to a substrate. Laser bonding is great for a variety of metals, glass, ceramic and plastic.

Laser bonding is unlike any other type of laser application in that it is an additive process that affixes material to the surface/part that is being marked.

In laser bonding, the material is being added to surface to create the mark as opposed to removing it. During bonding, material absorbs the laser’s energy, causing the material to melt and adhere to the surface. The material then becomes permanently joined.

Industries, materials and applications best suited for laser bonding:

  • Aerospace
  • Medical
  • Metals
  • Glass
  • Ceramic
